Style Feature: Secrets Des Soeurs
I am so excited to share my first style interview featuring these beautiful ladies from Secrets Des Soeurs. Thaina and I first connected on social media by way of a mutual friend and it's been a delight collaborating with both her and her sister, Patrice. I was featured on their site a couple months back and both have such a great sense of style so I just had to share it with you all! Can't keep all the goodness to myself! Keep reading to learn more about these lovely ladies! Thanks Thaina and Patrice for sharing.
Introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about yourself. What are your name(s)? Where do you live? What do you do?
My name is Thaina (the eldest sister and cofounder of SecretsDesSoeurs) and I’m Patrice (the youngest and cofounder of SecretsDesSoeurs). We live with our parents in sunny Southern California. I (Thaina) am a model, blogger and student. I (Patrice) I am a full- time student , freelance makeup artist and caregiver.
Tell us about your blog, SecretsDesSoeurs. What was the inspiration behind the name?
We wanted a name with meaning that connected with our French background. It means Secrets among sisters which is a nod to the playfulness between us as we share our love for fashion and arts with our audience.
What are some words you would use to describe your sense of style?
Thaina: Aghhh…undefined. I shift between vintage, classic, boho and modern styles depending on my mood. I’m truly a chameleon when it comes to fashion. I like what I like and wear it!
Patrice: I’ve always found this question challenging to answer because I don’t consider myself to have a set style. I consider my body a canvas that’s susceptible to whatever look I desire for the day.
How and when did you discover your love for vintage fashion?
Thaina: I fell in love with vintage in 2006 when I first went natural. It wasn’t popular back then and during that time of my life I became obsessed with the fact that wearing vintage would allow me to stand apart from the masses of retail.
Patrice: I’ve learned to appreciate vintage style in 2010 when I attended an away-from-home school called Oakwood University. As a college student, I didn’t have the money to shop quality over quantity so the thrift store became my best friend. I could find vintage one of a kind quality pieces that I also looked beautiful in.
Where do you find your vintage pieces? What are some of your favorite shops and websites?
Thaina: My favorite vintage shop was a small boutique in Redlands Consignment and Thrift that closed down and Swellegant in Newport Beach, Ca. My favorite places to shop online are d and asos.com
Patrice: I rarely shop vintage like I used to but when I do I go to whichever consignment shop my sister discovers and is passionate about… My most visited online shops are Asos and Sheinside.
Do you consider your sense of style to be static (remaining constant among the changing trends) or constantly changing?
Thaina: I don’t usually incorporate trends into my wardrobe. It minimizes the risk of buying pieces that only work or a season or two. I prefer to invest in timeless pieces.
Patrice: Definitely not, I consider my style to be dynamic. I’m always open to trying new things, different looks even some things that are a little out of my comfort zone I grow to appreciate.
What are some tips that you might have for those looking to find their own personal sense of style?
Thaina: Experiment with colors and shapes to find out what brings you the most energy and what is most flattering for your body type. Choose which trends are for you. Wear what makes you feel beautiful.
Our sense of style is not only depicted in our clothing choices but also in our beauty and makeup choices. What advice can you give our readers on how to select makeup that incorporates their sense of style?
Patrice: I believe finding your own personal sense of style even in cosmetology comes from within. Know you’re beautiful in whatever you decide to put on, then experiment go through the trial and errors until you find the mascara that brings out your eyes or the concoction of foundation that perfectly matches your skin in the summer or winter time.
In addition to your blog, are there any other places our readers can find you?
Thanks again, Patrice and Thaina for sharing and as always, thanks for stopping by!
