Layered for spring
Spring is in the air and warmer days are on the horizon. But with the sporadic temperatures, I’m still here wearing my layers and mixing prints. 🤷🏾♀️
While a lot of you may be indoors in sweats and night clothes (the Caribbean in me never really got down with the word PJs) and are not even thinking about your wardrobe, I thought some inspiration might be helpful for the days when we are back to the daily grind.
Quite a few of my clients have said they want to experiment more with mixing prints. I realize the way I do it may not be systematic (lol, that’s the creative in me), but here are some tips:
Look for common colors. I find one of the easiest ways to mix and match prints is to stay within the same color family. So think black and white stripes, black and white dots.
Mix bold prints with more subtle ones. In this particular outfit, I took the larger paisley, and mixed it with a smaller geometric print. I also used the pants as my guide for pulling the pieces together. I like the pairing of mustard and blue and also how mustard and burgundy complement one another. Kind of autumnal (meh) but I’m here for it, lol.
Experiment, experiment, experiment! Try things on…in advance. Look at yourself in a mirror to see how things come together. For me it’s about trial and error. It takes some time to get comfortable with mixing, but we’re here to push the boundaries. And if you need a little help I’m here for it.
In these uncertain times, I’m praying that you all remain safe and healthy. I’m praying for those who are suffering from the virus itself, and in other ways due to its effects. We will get through this, by God’s grace. Stay safe and stay home ❤️. I’d love to hear what you’re doing with your wardrobe during the quarantine…
P.S. If you’re looking for some light reading…I was humbled and honored to be featured in the spring issue of Magnolia Journal, the lifestyle magazine of Joanna and Chip Gaines. The focus of the issue is ‘purpose’ and you can read how me and some pretty other amazing people found their purpose in life. It’s available in stores and digitally . Happy New Week!
