Grateful
There have been times, depending on the spaces I’ve been in, where I have cowered under my blackness and who I really am.
But the older I get, the more proud I become of the where I’ve come from and the people who have paved the way for me, the things that weren’t handed to me, the experiences that, despite the pain, have made me stronger.
So as my birthday month comes to a close, I’m grateful for who I am becoming, the strength I’ve developed, the joys, the disappointments. I’m grateful for my tribe. The people who surround you through it all. And as I remember this birthday as unusual, strange, and I see the suffering and continued disparities around me, I am reminded that we are a people who overcome struggle, who persist.
So while this outfit was another opportunity to mix patterns and prints, it’s also a reminder of the brightness and vividness of my heritage, of which I am proud. How are you surviving this pandemic? My continued prayers are with all of you and those on the front lines.
